Bringing the Second Line to Maine
The Hot 8 at the
8th Annual Deer Island Jazz Festival
Larry Blumenfeld told us about bringing the Hot 8 to Stonington, Maine for a Second Line as part of the 8th Deer Island Jazz Festival.
We told them if someone could shoot the video, we could turn it into a public memory for people who were (and weren't) there.
Second Lines uses to take place all over the east in places like Albany and Philadelphia before the turn of the century.
As you can see from this video, even on a tiny island off of Maine, people get the concept. There's no reason every town in America could not re-start this tradition.
