Make your own movie

Live in New Orleans?

Visiting New Orleans?

Help tell the story of the city’s rebuilding…

Video what you encounter, upload it to YouTube and send me the link. If it’s about food, music or justice in New Orleans, I might post it to FoodMusicJustice.com

It’s easy even if you’re starting from scratch with no experience. All you need is a video camera and a computer with a high speed Internet connection.

It doesn’t have to be expensive:

1. You can rent a computer connected to the Internet by the hour.

2. YouTube accounts are free. (Keep your video to ten minutes or less.)

3. Here’s a remarkably good video camera you can get for just $95

Pure Digital Video camera

The secret…Keep it simple.

1. Frame your shot with some care

2. Don’t shake the camera

3. Simple, one-take videos that tell a story are best

Good enough is good enough. You can always get complicated later.

How it works in practice

This video was shot and posted to YouTube using the method described above. It’s of a Second Line through the Lower Ninth Ward.

This one was held on December 17, 2006 and was sponsored by the Big Nine Social and Pleasure Club.

Help people experience the real New Orleans, the New Orleans worth saving, the New Orleans the TV doesn’t show and tourists rarely see…
