Bush adminstration scandal #389287

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

The Bush administration scandals are coming so fast and furious its hard to keep up.

Here are two that really stand out:

1. The fraud used to lie the US into a disasterous invasion and occupation of Iraq in violation of all domestic and international law.

2. The fraud used to evade federal responsibility for the Army Corps of Engineers levee collapses which all but destroyed one of America’s major cities.

Most people understand the first fraud. Few understand the second.

A local grass roots group has recruited local New Orleans celebs to tell the story in a series of TV public service announcements.

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

TOOTIE’S LAST SUIT is a film about Allison “Tootie” Montana, former Chief of Yellow Pocahontas Hunters, and is showing this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

Montana masked Indian for 52 years, longer than any other Mardi Gras Indian.

Tootie’s was not only respected as a peerless artist and cultural leader, but also as a peacemaker who helped move the New Orleans Mardi Grass Indian tradition away from physical violence to artistic accomplishment and competition.

Aurora Nealand

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I don’t know much about Aurora Nealand except this:

1. I’ve heard her described as a multi-instrumentalist

2. I’ve heard her play soprano and alto sax

3. I like the way she plays

4. She’s a much-loved member of several New Orleans bands

Here’s some clips

At the Spotted Cat with Vavavoom

A solo on “Brazil” with Vavavoom

Playing alto sax with the Panorama Brass Band(?) at Helen Hill’s Funeral Parade

Playing alto sax with the Panorama Jazz Band
at French Quarter Fest 2008

There really should be a web site about all things Aurora Nealand, but until then…
